West Midlands Police is the second largest police force in the country, covering an area of 348 square miles and serving a population of almost 2.8 million. The force deals with more than 2,000 emergency calls for help every day, as well as patrolling the streets and responding to incidents 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week.
The have a dedicated group of Forensic Scene Investigators (FSIs) who search for forensic clues at crime scenes. Depending on the circumstances of the crime, they might visit a home, street or business following a crime to gather evidence that may help police to detect and arrest the offender.
From a burglary to vehicle crime to murder, offenders are likely to leave forensic evidence at the crime scene which provides clues to investigating officers.
If evidence is found while searching, it is carefully recovered and sent their state-of-the-art Forensic Services Department to be tested.
